About Us

Köküne Kadar — History Encyclopedia is the website of the Köküne Kadar TV channel. In the short history videos we publish on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, we can only devote a few minutes to each topic. On this site, we aim to turn that same curiosity into a longer, well-sourced read at a more leisurely pace.

Why “köküne kadar”?

History is usually told from the beginning. We often do the reverse: we start with a building, a city, a tradition or a name you encounter today, then work our way back, layer by layer.

What periods, people and changes lie beneath what we see today? We try to follow that question all the way to the earliest layer—to the roots, which is what “köküne kadar” means.

What do we do?

  • We publish history articles in ten languages: Turkish, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Azerbaijani and Indonesian.
  • Each article ends with a numbered list of sources. These include UNESCO, ministry websites, academic papers, museums and Wikipedia.
  • We source most of our images from Wikimedia Commons and credit each image’s creator and license in the article.
  • We choose topics based on the questions people are curious about and actually search for.

We use AI tools to research, write and translate our articles. We explain this process openly on our Our Use of AI page, and describe how we choose sources on our Our Sourcing Policy page.

What don’t we do?

  • We are not an academic institution and do not conduct original research such as archival research or excavations. We bring together published sources and present them in plain language.
  • Our articles are intended to introduce readers to a topic and guide them to reliable sources, rather than serve as sources for academic work. We recommend that readers who want to explore further consult the works in the source list.
  • On disputed topics, we do not present a single view as the definitive truth; we aim to show different perspectives alongside their sources.

Our connection to the channel

The website and Köküne Kadar TV are two parts of the same project. The videos offer a brief introduction to a topic, while the website explores it in greater detail, with supporting sources.

Our videos may contain AI-generated images and voices. These videos are published with an “AI-generated” label on the platforms where they are shared.

Spotted an error?
